Event Summary:
Rowa Kyang (Village school) Students, teachers, and SMC members participate in Native tree planting. In the Chittagong Hill Tracts, there exist tree reserve forests Sangu, Kachalong and Kaptai—and two wildlife sanctuaries—Pablakhali and Sangu-Matamuhuri. These areas account for 40 percent of Bangladesh's natural forests, spread across three hill districts. This region boasts a rich bio-ecological diversity. The indigenous communities of Bandarban have long adapted to their environment, living in harmony with it. Conservation is deeply ingrained in their culture, prompting them to regularly plant native species such as the Bailam, Gorjon and Champa trees. According to data from Global Forest Watch (GFW), 3.7% of the nation's natural forests of the country were lost between 2002 and 2020. Over 9% of Chittagong and Chittagong Hill Tracts have been depleted. For about 150 years, indigenous/Native trees in the hill forests have been cut down to make way for commercially valuable trees. The government and development sector are now working to reintroduce these native trees benefits. In this context, Kamsing Para Primary school students SMC members, community people will plant about 500 native trees sapling at respective land and home premises. Through this native trees planting event on 5th June 2024, participants will be encouraged about the native trees and the participant learn the significance of environmental conservation.
