Mendon Meadow pollinator garden stewardship

Location:
Bear River Land Conservancy's Mendon Meadow Preserve
Mendon, Utah, United States

Date & Time:
June 9, 2023 | 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm (Local Timezone)

Event Summary:

In September 2022, Society for Ecological restoration members helped a local land trust, the Bear River Land Conservancy, establish a pollinator-friendly landscape along the edge of the Conservancy's Mendon Meadow preserve, which protects a federally threatened species of orchid. Volunteers from the Great Basin chapter and Utah State University student association planted grass and forb seedlings into a previously disturbed site that had been invaded by non-native weeds. Our Make A Difference Week event will help to maintain the site and assist in establishment of target species by removing weeds and assessing seedling survival over an unusually long, snowy winter.

Practical Details:

Meet at the site, parking along the west side of 5400 West. Bring work gloves, water, and sunscreen. The site is in an ephemeral wetland and may be partly covered by several inches of water, so bring footwear appropriate for those conditions.
