Celebrate Make a Difference week this year as we spruce up the trails at Guemes Mountain after a long winter. During this work party we will carry and spread gravel, clip back vegetation that is obscuring the trail, clear fallen limbs and trees, and rake the trail. No prior trail experience is required, just a desire to get some work done outdoors! During the work party, we will walk the approximately 2.5 miles roundtrip of trail up the mountain, spreading gravel, clipping back vegetation and raking as we go. Staff may operate weedwhackers and/or chainsaws but will keep their distance from volunteers to reduce safety hazard and noise. The day's activities will involve carrying buckets or wheelbarrow of gravel, bending and picking up small to medium sized vegetation.
Ages: All ages welcome, this is a family friendly event! (minor releases of liability required if under 18) IMPORTANT NOTE: This work party requires a ferry to travel to and from Guemes Island. We highly encourage carpooling if possible! The Trust will provide tools, extra gloves, snacks, and water. If you would prefer to bring your own tools, we will be using loppers, rakes, wheelbarrows, and shovels. Supplies to bring: Long sleeved shirt and pants, warm layers, rain gear, sturdy footwear, water for the day, snacks and lunch, and a backpack/bag to keep your personal belongings in during the work day.
