Join us at Gorge-Esquimalt Park for a morning of invasive species removal near Gorge Creek. Several restoration projects are underway near the creek to maintain the water quality of the Gorge Waterway and Portage Inlet. These disturbed areas are often quickly colonized by weedy or invasive species that can out compete native plants. We will be using manual removal methods to reduce the spread of invasive species across our restoration sites, and participants can ask questions about local ecology to our Restoration Technicians leading the event.
Participants should meet at the Gorge Waterway Nature House by the children's playground by 9am. Facilitators will bring the group to the restoration site near Gorge Creek where introductions and land acknowledgement will take place. Gloves, tools and training will be provided, but participants are expected to dress for the weather, rain or shine. Water and bathrooms are available onsite at the Nature House and Pavilion. Accommodations can be made for those with mobility impairments.
Event will take place in an outdoor setting. Hand sanitizer will be available and all gloves and tools will be sanitized before and after use. Participants are encouraged to keep 2m of physical distance to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Participants are also asked to remain at home if they are sick or showing signs of illness.
