Event Summary:
Join the fun and friendly environmental restoration volunteers to remove invasive species and protect the ecosystems at the Nature Sanctuary. Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary is an accessible green space in an urban landscape and includes two distinct ecosystems, a wetland around Swan Lake and a rocky, Garry oak-forest on top of Christmas Hill. Both habitats are home to an incredible array of rare and threatened native plants and wild animals.
Practical Details:
Meet in parking lot at 841 Ralph Street (red house on corner of Ralph and Swan Lake Rd) We provide: all tools needed (everyone gets their own set and then returns them at the end of the shift); work gloves, which are returned at end of shift (if you have your own garden gloves please use these); training on plant identification and how the Nature Sanctuary conserves native species; cookies at the end of the shift to restore your energy. You provide: willing hands and minds to learn more about this important conservation work; your own work clothes and closed toe shoes.
COVID-19 Protocols:
Please follow all current health and safety protocols during the shift. Masks are requested for indoor access (bathrooms etc) but not required while outdoors. Thanks for helping keep everyone safe.
