Event Summary:
Some of the soil from Bell Bowl Prairie was moved to Cedar Cliff Forest Preserve last month. Plan to join Friends of Illinois Nature Preserves and the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County on Sunday, June 4th from 9 am to 12 pm. We will walk the entire site to see why it was chosen and talk about the stewardship opportunities here in the coming months. We’ll do a bioblitz – a biological inventory or biological census of the entire site – to study the site so we can monitor and care for the Bell Bowl Prairie soils and surrounding ecosystem. No experience necessary – staff will be on hand to provide training.
Practical Details:
Things to know before you come: Bring water and a snack. Dress for the wilderness – this should include sturdy boots or shoes, a hat, bug spray, and sunscreen. Long pants and a long sleeve shirt are suggested. We work hard, but at our own pace, and we often take breaks to share snacks and share ideas and nature with each other.
