Let's Animals Move Freely On Our Mountains

Event Summary:

The mountains of Central Apennines are fragmented in terms of wildlife movements by kilometers of abandoned barbed wire, once used to protect seedlings of the past reforestation actions or to fence season herds that today don't exist anymore. No one has never cleaned away this wire in the past decades. Also humans can benefit by freeing the mountains from barbed wire under esthetic and safety points of view. Rewilding Apennines together with Salviamo l'Orso NGO and their volunteers want to restore these important mountain habitat by removing the barbed wire manually. Since 2018 this restoration action has been carrying out and more than 100 kilometers of barbed wire have already been removed! So, let's continue to free the mountains from this wildlife barrier!

Practical Details:

The place in the mountain will be reached by 4x4 pick ups of the organizations. The volunteers need to wear old comfortable clothes, hiking boots, hats. Rewilding Apennines will provide personal safety devices, such as goggles and robust gloves. Moreover, pincers will be distributed to help removing the barbed wire from the wooden posts. The participants need to bring solar cream to protect theirselves from the sunlight, some water and food.

COVID-19 Protocols:

The activities will be carried out outdoor, so no specific Covid-19 protocols will be applied. During the transportation in the pick ups, the volunteers will wear masks.
