The Galiano Conservancy is conducting a watershed-scale restoration program at the Millard Learning Centre on Galiano Island, focused on addressing the legacy of forestry, agriculture, and hydrological modification of Chrystal Creek. This ambitious program includes removing garbage from natural areas, restoring natural hydrology and microtopography, establishing native vegetation, and creating a diversity of seasonal and perennial wetlands to support wildlife and breeding amphibians.
This volunteer event will invite participants to contribute to the restoration of degraded areas in the watershed through hands on activities.
Participants should meet at the Galiano Conservancy's Program Centre building at the entrance to the Millard Learning Centre, where parking will be available. Participants should wear appropriate clothing for field work, including sturdy waterproof boots, long pants, and sun protection. Participants should also come prepared for rain, as it is always a possibility. Participants are encouraged to pack a lunch and bring a water bottle. Water and some snacks will be provided.
The event will be held outdoors, and will adhere to all relevant Provincial COVID-19 guidelines in place in June 2022.
